The Holy Mountain and starting a film night
Rewatching the film Forbidden Planet reminded me of so many other great surrealist films I’ve loved over the years, especially The Holy Mountain. There’s something timeless and important about how these films dissolve logic and lean into symbolism, ritual, and dream language. They open up new ways of thinking, where meaning isn’t fixed but felt. That can be such a rich space.

I spoke with Denise about starting a film club this week and she mentioned that there is momentum from Liz about this too. We did talk about it last year but nothing came of it at the time. With the nights drawing in earlier, exploring this over the Autumn/ Winter term feels pragmatic. I am going to chat with the group about it and dig out my projector.
