Do Ho Suh Staircase III
Do Ho Suh’s fabric installations, diaphanous, transparent
yet imposing still, explore the concepts of memory, personal experience,
identity and transience. He makes memory spatial but avoids over sentimentality.
The translucency of his pieces frames identity as fragile and temporary. Most
of his works are grand in scale and also in a detail; to a degree that feels
almost devotional. I always want to go bigger, and this artist is proof of how
effective this can be as long as your concept and execution is on point. I also
admire his use of material, transmuting textiles into an architectural
material, and his clever use of palette which as you can see, is bold and
sophisticated.
