Last print for this project: Head piece for textile sculpture

After deciding to create a 3D printed head for my textile sculpture, I returned to Blender to modify the bunny head from my Guardian of Whimsy to scale it up and add a neck attachment.

This required an uncustom amount of maths and geometry, essentially working out the circumference of the sculpture and the angle of it's top curve.

I got there in the end.

Workings:

Pi x diameter = circumference

Measure radius of sculpture = 17cm

17 x 3.14cm = 53.2cm

I therefore need to create the STL model for a 33cm section of a 17cm radius circle, which makes the curve approximately 110.5°.

After creating the model to these specs, I added it to the 3D printer software, Prusa Slice, and tweaked it a little more so that the whole thing was as large as possible while also fitting on the printing bed; which means it would print in 1 go. This is just a timescale requirement at this point but it's very close to the scale I wanted it to be anyway.

I chose the yellow filament. I had wanted the pink initially, but budget constraints mean I need to use the left over filament I already have. I have some candy pink spray paint which I can use if I don't like how the yellow sits with the piece.

Seems to be printing ok.
