Bethan Hemus
BA (Hons) Art & Design
Bethan Hemus is a concept-led multidisciplinary artist working at the intersections of trauma, resistance and repair. She uses humour, ambiguity, and material play to unpick power structures and imagine other possibilities. Her practice is driven by personal experience and a deep curiosity about how we break, mend and adapt.
Working intuitively across media, from the layered tactility of printmaking to the intimacy of textiles and the immersive possibilities of installation, she allows each idea to find its own voice. Her most recent discipline focus is carpet making, because soft materials can hold hard ideas.
Bethan is intrigued by paradox and often crafts ambiguous work that invites others to question, witness and co-create. Play and humour are central to her artistic process: not just for levity, but as sharp tools of provocation. By upending the expected, she aims to spark delight while challenging the serious, encouraging us to imagine what else might be possible, both in art and in the world at large.
With over a decade of experience in community and grassroots organising, Bethan’s creativity extends beyond the studio. Since her early twenties, she has been a regular presence in the counterculture scene, supporting and contributing to spaces where art and music becomes action and connection.
She is open to commissions and collaboration. For all enquiries, please message grogardenbeth@gmail.com.
