Vampire violet gloss: reflections on colour and finish choice
We are so lucky to have an MTN shop in Nottingham, where you can just walk in and peruse a huge array of high quality paint and other art materials.
This is MTN Vampiro Violet, one of my favorite gloss colours. It's a deep purple, that's almost blacker than black. I always prefer to use purple where possible instead of black because it creates richer, more dynamic results by adding dimension and depth. Black often looks flat and absorbs all light, while purple combines the energy of red and the stability of blue.
I wanted to use a glass to create maximum refraction over all the different angular planes of the sculpture.
It will also reflect any colours nearby which is a nest thing to consider when curating next week.
It looks like liquid is a solid shape. Or polished coal. Or a magical gem of some kind. It's truly beautiful and has a talismanic quality. It looks heavy. It is not. You can't really tell what it's made from. I am pleased.
